Introduction:
In 1985, Govt. of India,
decided to set up good quality residential schools, one in each district,
essentially to provide good quality education to bright children from
rural areas. This decision was warranted by the fact that while good
educational facilities have been available in urban areas progressively,
many of the bright children in the rural areas have been deprived of good
education because good educational facilities are not available in rural
areas and the modest economic means of their families do not allow them to
go to urban areas and avail of good education there. The first two schools
were named Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). Since then the Jawahar
Navodaya Vidyalayas all over the country have been started at a fast pace
and presently there are more than 593 Navodaya Vidyalayas situated almost
in every district of our country.
